3/31/2006: Albino peacock

Two different people have pointed me to an albino peacock in the last few weeks - and I don't even think they're the same one. Nonetheless, they're interesting in this albino form and IotD always enjoys the unusual whities although it is not at all racist.

Funny to think that under all that fluff is a tiny little pigeon of a bird. See what fashion can do for you?

That bird's just asking to be Photoshopped.

That would be cool. But, I think the white eerie/awesome. So ethereal.

Those birds have always been beautiful in the past, and this one is even more attractive. Although not as much when compared to the gorgeous 30-pounder in the background. (Go ahead, correct me if I'm wrong)

Albino peacocks remind me of lace patterns.

Beautiful birds!

...too bad the number of "presents" they leave behind is almost as bad a Candian geese. If they get into your neighborhood, they're difficult to get rid of and the result is your street, yard, driveway, and roof being paved over in extreme amounts of bird doo. So nasty.

And starting this summer (or maybe next), the droppings will contain the bird flu virus. Yea!

In the second picture you can see his tighty whities.

Promenea  Friday Mar 31 01:44 PM

And their call sounds like a woman screaming or crying. Not nice at all.

Highriskgeo  Friday Mar 31 02:11 PM

i almost think the albino ones are prettier than the colored

Pancake Man  Friday Mar 31 02:27 PM

UT, did you catch where these pics were taken? That first one looks familiar...

ferret88  Friday Mar 31 02:58 PM

Wonder it that means it's all white meat...

Elspode  Friday Mar 31 04:01 PM

xoxoxoBruce  Saturday Apr 1 01:11 AM

He's beautifull, but dirty, like all birds.
Hey, if he was smart he could use that tail to catch flying meals....and spiders.... and minnows.

Kagen4o4  Saturday Apr 1 02:09 AM

True story... Federal and state wildlife agencies often put numbered bands on wild birds to indentify them, usually small metal leg bands but sometimes you see big birds like geese with neck band collars that can be identified from a distance.

Back in the early 80's some bright official here in Texas had the idea to dye some white snow geese so they could track their movement and easily see them in a large flock of geese. They chose to spray a bright pink dye on several birds as a test. The pink birds flew with the rest of the flock for a week or so but they were slowly ostracized by the flock and eventually they were totally excluded. Several were actually found dead having been attacked by other geese, litterally pecked to death. The others died from going solo making them easier prey for coyotes and other preditors.

And they say humans are the only ones who are xenophobic.

xoxoxoBruce  Saturday Apr 1 09:51 AM

So, UG's not the only one attacking pinkos?

capnhowdy  Saturday Apr 1 04:49 PM

With their plumage furled they look like the 'road runner'.
There's a farmer down here that raises peacocks and turkeys. Almost all the turkeys are white but I've never seen a white peacock.
And yes, when they yell they really do sound like a frightened woman. Scare the hell outa you if you're not expecting it. Loud as hell too.
