3/23/2006: World record igloo village

Axlrosen, who is on fire with images, suggests this item which was also Boing Boing'd.

What did YOU do last weekend? 240 people in Switzerland took it upon themselves to set a world record. They constructed a little village of 100 igloos in 12 hours, with no mechanical assistance.

And they did it!

It just took the right sort of fuel.

Looks like fun.

And then at night it got really beautiful.

One of the most interesting photos, one from the inside. The finger marks give it a haunting feeling.

Trilby  Thursday Mar 23 02:22 PM

Now I feel as though I wasted my weekend.

Kagen4o4  Thursday Mar 23 03:23 PM

now im going to waste my weekend.

Pancake Man  Thursday Mar 23 03:26 PM

It was beautiful for a day, then a wandering construction worker with a blowtorch and a gut full of whiskey took it upon himself to get rid of it.

LOL

I was gonna say that the neighborhood bully came and knocked it all down, but that works.

I'm thinking that I should move there, then I wouldn't have the problem of trying to keep all my wine cold. Easy solution.

"...a local eskimo drowned last night when his house burnt down..."

The bottle on the left is leaning up against the yellow snow.

Leah  Thursday Mar 23 07:23 PM

Trust you to notice that Bruce.
Hey don't put any ice in your drinks guys.

I think the bottle of beer froze and blew the top off. Happenend last summer in my freezer.

I really liked the snow sculpture in the fifth image.
I always wondered what an igloo looked like at night. Way cool.

And I especially love these multiple image IOtDs. Thanks again, UT.

Kagen4o4  Thursday Mar 23 09:04 PM

well, its not exactly "IMAGE" of the day now is it

xoxoxoBruce  Friday Mar 24 04:59 AM

Sure it is, just more views of the "image".

Kagen4o4  Friday Mar 24 06:58 PM

I really wish those people would get out of my yard!

bigpeeler  Tuesday Apr 11 01:14 AM

Ok. A night outside in an igloo in freezing temperatures? I could do. A night without the Internet? Eh......

By the way, photo #7 (the night shot) would make such a sweet desktop. I will give $375,223,950.37 to anyone that can hook me up with a nice hi-res shot of that.

xoxoxoBruce  Tuesday Apr 11 04:51 AM

For $375,223,950.37, we'll build you 100 igloos with cable internet.....and throw in a camera.
